Ionic liquid treatment for obesity

Peer-Reviewed Publication

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

A study found that rats fed a high-fat diet exhibited 12% less body weight gain after ingestion of 10 μl of an ionic liquid composed of choline and geranate (CAGE) once a day for 30 days, compared with rats that were not treated with the ionic liquid; CAGE also reduced the amount of food consumed, intestinal fat uptake, and docosahexaenoic acid absorption by 60-70%, suggesting the potential of CAGE for controlling body weight.
