About the Editor:
Michael J. Cawley, PharmD, RRT, CPFT, FCCM, is a professor of clinical pharmacy at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, PA (USA). He received his degrees of Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. He completed a post-doctorate residency in surgical critical care pharmacotherapy at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in association with the hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Cawley has more than 100 scholarly publications focused on the area of critical care and infectious disease pharmacotherapeutics. He is also recognized as a fellow in the American College of Critical Care Medicine. He served on the editorial boards of several biomedical journals including Annals of Pharmacotherapy (Critical Care Editorial Section), Journal of Respiratory Medicine and Lung Disease and reviewer for Critical Care Medicine, Pharmacotherapy, Journal of Asthma, Clinical Therapeutics, and European Respiratory Journal. Dr. Cawley has been an invited national speaker, presenting more than 230 programs for national and international audiences and served in various roles as an advisory board member and a speaker's bureau representative for the pharmaceutical industry.
Islam M. Ghazi, PharmD, MSc, BCPS, BCACP, BCIDP, FCPP is a professor, researcher, and specialist practitioner of infectious diseases. He is a graduate of the University of Florida, fellow of Hartford Hospital Center of Anti-infective Research and Development, and assistant professor at Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. In addition to providing pharmaceutical patient care in the domains of ICU, internal medicine, and infectious diseases, Dr. Ghazi has accumulated diverse experience through participation in academic activity including designing and lecturing infectious diseases courses to the pharmacy and medical students and in research activity including the design and execution of research projects related to drug discovery and development ranging from preclinical trials on animals and in vitro in addition to different phases of clinical trials. Dr. Ghazi has authored a variety of peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and international conference presentations. He has also contributed as an editor and reviewer in several scientific journals. Serving in multiple roles enabled Dr. Ghazi to develop an integrated approach and deep understanding of infectious diseases that he hopes to pass on to the readership.
