Bioinformatics, and by extension omic sciences - the collective disciplines that are dependent on the use of extensive datasets of biological information - present a challenge of data management for researchers all over the world. Big data collected as part of research projects and experiments can be complex, with several kinds of variables involved. About the Author
Dr. Luigi Donato graduated in Biology and completed his PhD in "Applied Biology and Experimental Medicine" in University of Messina, Italy, where he frequents the Laboratories of Molecular Genetics in BIOMORF department. He is a researcher of the Euro-Mediterranean Institute of Science and Technology (IEMEST) in Palermo, Italy, where he teaches in "Bioinformatics and Statistics Applied to Sciences" master. He published more than 50 papers in reputed international journals and participated in more than 30 national and international congresses, also being in the Organizing Committee in three of them. Additionally, he was a member of "Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology" (ARVO) and he is a member of "Associazione Italiana di Biologia e Genetica" (AIBG). Recently, he joined the Editorial Board of "BMC Bioinformatics", "Cell Cycle", "Antioxidants" (Guest Editor) and "Bioinformatics & Proteomics Open Access Journal", and Reviewer Board of "Brain Sciences". Dr. Donato also acted as reviewer for more than 15 impacted international journals. His main research fields are focused on Rare Genetic Disease, especially Inherited Retinal Dystrophies (IRDs, with retinitis pigmentosa in particular), Cerebral Cavernous Malformations (CCMs), arteriovenous malformation (AVM) and Trimethylaminuria (TMAU).
