IADR/AADR announce recipients of the 2021 IADR/AADR William J. Gies Awards

International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research

Alexandria, Va., USA - The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) announced the 2021 recipients of the IADR/AADR William J. Gies Awards for the best papers published in the IADR/AADR Journal of Dental Research. The winners were recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the virtual 99th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR, held in conjunction with the 50th Annual Meeting of the AADR and the 45th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR), on July 21-24, 2021.

These awards are presented in three categories: Biological Research, Biomaterials & Bioengineering Research and Clinical Research.

The award in the Biological Research category is presented to M.A. Payne, A. Hashim, A. Alsam, S. Joseph, J. Aduse-Opoku, W.G. Wade and M.A. Curtis for the paper "Horizontal and Vertical Transfer of Oral Microbial Dysbiosis and Periodontal Disease," J Dent Res 98(13): 1503-1510, 2019.

The award in the Biomaterials and Bioengineering Research category is presented to M.Z.I. Nizami, Y. Nishina, T. Yamamoto, Y. Shinoda-Ito and S. Takashiba for the paper "Functionalized Graphene Oxide Shields Tooth Dentin from Decalcification," J Dent Res 99(2): 182-188, 2019.

The award in the Clinical Research category is presented to C. Brizuela, G. Meza, D. Urrejola, M.A. Quezada, G. Concha, V. Ramíre1, I. Angelopoulos, M.I. Cadiz, R. Tapia-Limonchi and M. Khoury for the paper "Cell-Based Regenerative Endodontics for Treatment of Periapical Lesions: A Randomized, Controlled Phase I/II Clinical Trial," J Dent Res 99(5): 523-529, 2019.

The award is named for William J. Gies, the founder of the Journal of Dental Research. The awards are supported by J. Morita Corporation and consist of $1,000 USD and a plaque.
