Pollinator survey in the forest-steppe with natural woodlot in the back (IMAGE)
Caption
Pollinator insect species profited from increased native plant and milkweed abundance. Also, herbivores, such as true bugs, and predators, such as spiders, showed increased species richness for elevated plant richness and associated more complex vegetation structure. However, after the classification of the studied insect species into habitat generalists and specialists, it was found that the positive results are due to the generalist, which profited from the invasion, whereas specialists were not directly affected. Thus, in the long term, the presence of the invasive plant would irreversibly change the habitats dominated by generalist arthropods, displacing the valuable specialist ones.
