Exact pairing enhances the visibility of shape coexistence. (IMAGE)

Pairing matters — especially in transitional nuclei. Comparing Exact and BCS pairing schemes for 170Pt, 172Hg, and 174Pb reveals that Exact pairing more clearly exposes multiple shape minima. Ground states (red dots) appear in both models, but coexisting shapes (red crosses) are more pronounced under exact treatment, underscoring its advantage in capturing subtle shape dynamics.
