South Africa's Fynbos and Succulent Karoo Biomes are hotspots of monkey beetle diversity. These beetles are important pollinators of endemic flowers in South Africa and play an important role in natural food webs. They are buffered from the effects of climate change by their use of diverse microclimatic conditions in their natural habitat. Impacts of climate change and habitat transformation threaten these native insect populations, with as yet unknown consequences for ecosystem function.
