A global alignment of the three states was done based on the C atoms within the β-strands from each subunit to visualize the motions of the transmembrane domain relative to the extracellular domain. A morph between the three states was then created in ChimeraX (41). Tan sticks in the channel pore correspond to the Leu9’ and Val13’ residues from each subunit that form the hydrophobic gate.
