Left: A brick-like shape in which the chloroplasts must find optimal packings. Light enters through the top. Middle: when the light is dim, the chloroplasts want to pack near the top side to absorb as much light as possible. The box-shape is “folded open” for easy visualization. Right: when the light is too intense, the chloroplasts pack near the side walls to avoid it.
