Ant colony in the ISTA lab

Caption

Worker ants organize the colony brood into separate nest chambers. Larvae, which have hatched from eggs and require frequent care, are grouped and fed often. Pupae, in contrast, do not eat and are protected from desiccation by their cocoons, so they only need occasional inspections.
