Metal strips arranged in parallel along the length direction are connected not by bonding but by tightly weaving ribbons into loop-shaped interlacing joints. These soft yet strong ribbon joints provide dense constraints between strips to form a stiff folding structure, while at the same time allowing the strips to slide locally through the ribbon loops.
