The PI4P identity of the extra-haustorial membrane is altered in AM fungi-colonised roots: Nicotiana benthamiana plants were grown either with autoclaved (left) or live (right) AM inoculum for several weeks and then infected with P. palmivora. Without AM fungi we see the same exclusion of the reporter from the haustoria, however in AM fungo-colonised tissue we see haustoria are now labelled, suggesting a change in the PI4P identity of the extrahaustorial membrane.
