Accumulation of positively charged ions (cations) and DNA localization in Dex-rich droplets (IMAGE)
Caption
(a) Diagram showing DNA and cations localized in Dex droplets within a PEG aqueous solution. (b) The electrical charge measurement of PEG and Dex shows that Dex is slightly more negatively charged than PEG. (c) Quantification of cation concentrations in the Dex and PEG phases. Cations partition more favorably into the Dex-rich phase than into the PEG-rich phase. The accumulation of cations in Dex droplets balances the negative charge of DNA, thereby driving the localization of DNA inside the Dex-rich droplets.
