Mitochondria of lung cells under stress (IMAGE)
Caption
Under stress, the “oxidative-antioxidative” balance of the lung is disordered, and the level of lung mitochondrial ROS increases, triggering an inflammatory response. After the repair system and mitochondrial autophagy are disrupted, the mitochondria release a large amount of ROS, which further triggers an inflammatory response, causing a vicious circle.
