Co-registered ultrafast electron diffraction and transient reflectance spectroscopy measurements on multilayer MoS₂ and GaTe (IMAGE)
Caption
Transient reflectance of multilayer MoS₂ (a) shows prompt electronic response, while ultrafast electron diffraction (b-c) reveals delayed lattice heating, enabling quantitative modeling of energy transfer from electrons to the atomic lattice (d). Transient reflectance of multilayer GaTe (g) captures an ~18 GHz oscillation corresponding to shear phonons, while its ultrafast electron diffraction (e-f) resolves lattice vibrations belonging to both shear acoustic phonons (~19 GHz) and longitudinal breathing acoustic phonons (~39 GHz), fully demonstrating the complementary advantages of the multimodal system.
