Flagging surface artifacts to be mapped at site NgLj-2, Erebus Bay, one of two sites where a ship’s boat and bodies of expedition personnel were discovered in the mid-nineteenth century. Thirteen members of the Franklin expedition died at this location, three of whom have been identified through DNA analysis and all from HMS Erebus: Captain James Fitzjames, Able Seaman William Orren, and Boy 1st Class, David Young. A memorial cairn containing the remains of the thirteen men is visible in the background (University of Waterloo).
