Northern tamanduas have consistently maintained a population of 40-80 individuals on BCI. They are key termite predators, which can drive around half of all deadwood mass loss in tropical rainforests influencing carbon cycling in tropical forests, as discovered by a recent study performed among other sites, on BCI.
