Research led by the UW has generated a non-chemical, proof-of-principle method that uses a custom-built floating platform (shown here) to apply vibration and pressure to a specific region of sediment. The hollow part in the middle of the platform allows six concrete vibrators to compact the sediment below, which kills the shrimp by starving them of oxygen.
