New quantum experiment overcomes major obstacle in search for dark matter and gravitational waves (IMAGE)
Caption
Part of the challenge of building large-scale quantum sensors is generating very high power laser light that is still highly precise in its frequency. This picture show titanium sapphire crystal resonating in an optical cavity, generating light that will go on to split the quantum state of our atoms. The red light in this picture is one of the purest lights in existence – it is nothing but red down to the fifteenth decimal point.
