A universal truth: Jet broadening is the intrinsic effect. (IMAGE)
Caption
The universal, intrinsic effect is revealed by examining other jet-shape observables with a bias-corrected method. The left panel shows the groomed jet radius (Rg), and the right panel shows the angle between jet axes (∆Raxis). A consistent story emerges: standard, biased measurements (upper plots) suggest photon-tagged jets (γ+jet, squares) and inclusive jets (triangles) respond differently to the QGP. However, the bias-corrected “jet-by-jet (JBJ)” analysis (lower plots) conclusively shows that both types of jets are intrinsically broadened by the medium. The puzzle is solved: selection bias had masked this true, universal broadening effect.
