Macrophages drive chronic solid organ transplant rejection (IMAGE)
Caption
Macrophages are increasingly recognized as central mediators of chronic solid organ transplant rejection. Through their heterogeneous and adaptive functions, these innate immune cells promote persistent inflammation, vascular remodeling, and tissue fibrosis, leading to progressive graft dysfunction and loss. The study highlights macrophage-targeted interventions as a promising strategy to improve long-term transplant survival.
