7-OH and kratom products (IMAGE)
Caption
An assortment of products purchased in Michigan vape shops in early 2026. The tablets, which were sold in colorful packages and marketed as kratom-related with flavorings such as mint and grape, contain the synthetic opioids 7-OH and mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, which are now the subject of proposed or final federal drug scheduling rules and bans or restrictions in many states. The capsules contain powder made from leaf kratom, which is banned or restricted in some states and municipalities but is not the subject of proposed federal action as of 2026. Leaf kratom contains naturally occurring 7-OH and other psychoactive compounds but at lower levels than the synthetic (lab-made) products.
