A closer look at Nematostella (IMAGE)
Caption
Meet Nematostella, a sea anemone helping researchers rethink meiosis. The starlet sea anemone Nematostella vectensis is a relative of corals and jellyfish that can reproduce both sexually and asexually. Its gonads line eight internal tissue structures, allowing researchers to study how eggs and sperm are made in an animal that is evolutionarily distant from traditional laboratory models.
