Viral propogation with migrating bacterial phages (IMAGE)
Caption
Illustration of phages forming a path down the middle of the bacterial colony--a lytic highway of infection that moves at the speed of collective migration but always remains just short of the bacteria’s leading edge. The phages kill enough bacteria to progress, but not enough to overtake the bacterial population. The wave also carries the phages much farther and faster than they would progress in isolation.
