Geographic distribution of potential richness estimate for insects across California. (IMAGE)
Caption
Geographic distribution of potential richness estimate for insects across California. Estimates are based on rule-based spatial range interpolation constrained by ecoregion and vegetation type for every species in the dataset. The number of species predicted in each square kilometer is represented by the color plotted on the map, with lighter colors indicating higher species richness (color scale log-transformed), gray indicating EPA level IV ecoregions that have been sampled but not yet sequenced, and white indicating ecoregions and EVT cover type combinations for which we lack insect samples.
