Dozens or even hundreds of notes (IMAGE)

Gotha MS orient. A 627 (Iʿtilāl al-Qulūb). One of the most remarkable features of samāʿāt is that some manuscripts accumulated dozens, and occasionally hundreds, of audition records over successive generations. A single manuscript may preserve evidence of readings in Damascus, Cairo, and Jerusalem, followed by additional sessions held centuries later, offering a unique record of the transmission of knowledge across time and place.
