A study led by Lauren McFarland, a doctoral student in ecology and evolutionary biology in the College of Science at The University of Texas at El Paso, has documented, for the first time in North America, when and where genetic changes occurred in wild mallard populations and linked those changes directly to more than a century of releases of domesticated ducks. The findings were published in the journal Current Biology.
