ゼブラフィッシュの成魚には、完全な断裂損傷後の脊髄を再生する能力がある。遺伝子connective tissue growth factor a（ctgfa）の組織内での発現は、断裂した両端間にブリッジを形成することで脊髄の再生を促進する。赤色はグリア細胞、緑色は神経細胞、青色は上衣細胞を示す。ゼブラフィッシュは、ヒトにおける脊髄修復の方法を明らかにするためのモデルとなる。
