Osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis, is a degenerative disease characterized by the gradual break-down of joint cartilage, which only exhibits limited regenerative capacity. Stem cell-based tissue engineering strategies hold great promise for the treatment of damaged joint cartilage, and could be further fueled by the approach presented in this study.
