TQR Comparison of Fresco Model (Benini) (IMAGE)
Caption
Experimental tests were performed, in collaboration with the Opificio delle Pietre Dure Restoration Laboratories in Florence, on a fresco model, copied from Ghirlandaio and dated around 1930. This shows: Color photography (a); CMOS NIR photography (0.9 – 1.1 mm) (b); IR scanner at 1.82 mm (c) and TQR image (mosaic of two views) (d). TQR reveals details not detectable in the NIR, such as the cinnabar secco finishing touches on the mouth, the superficial drawing traces in the contour face and the inhomogeneities on the hat and hair.
