This optical satellite image from SPOT-4 was taken 2 hours earlier than the above photo at 11:48 EST and shows the presence of multiple internal wave soliton groups in the Mid-Atlantic Bight. The ship (white dot) in the center is the R/V Knorr just passing through several internal wave solitons to measure and track its characteristics with the ship's marine radar.
