Tusmice (IMAGE)

The coal power plant Tusmice in northwest of Czech Republic. Despite the progress of recent years in tackling air pollutants such as sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide and benzene, several air quality standards are still widely exceeded in the EU's most densely populated areas, especially from pollutants such as particulate matter, ground-level ozone and nitrogen dioxide. Rising industrial and energy production, burning of fossil fuels and the dramatic rise in traffic contribute to air pollution in our communities and can lead to serious health problems.
