Megan Morikawa Photographs Nursery Corals (IMAGE) Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Caption Megan Morikawa photographs nursery corals during a study in American Samoa of coral resistance to bleaching. Colonies from 80 corals were grown in a nursery all together for 8 months, and then experienced a strong bleaching event. Colonies that were earlier shown with physiological tests to be more heat resistant survived the bleaching much better than other colonies that were more heat sensitive.
