2009 Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge Winners Announced (8 of 15)

After the disastrous Tsunami in 2004 the German Indonesian initiative GITEWS was set up to provide Indonesia with a fast and reliable Tsunami warning system. The animation gives insight into the specific tsunami hazard of Indonesia and explains the complex design of the decision support system. The spectator witnesses a virtual tsunami looking over the system operators shoulder when the tsunami alarm is triggered. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Feb. 19, 2010, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The article was titled, "2009 International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge."
