Lack of Morning Light Keeping Teenagers Up at Night (3 of 3) (IMAGE)
Caption
Maggie Respass looks through a book in the library of Smith Middle School in North Carolina while participating in a 2009 study on how light impacts teens' sleep patterns. She is wearing a personal light-measuring device, called a Daysimeter, to measure her daily rest and activity patterns, as well as her exposure to circadian light -- short-wavelength light, particularly natural light from the blue sky, that stimulates the circadian system.
