Fluorescent Staining of Acorn Worm Embryo (IMAGE)
Caption
This image shows fluorescent staining with each square showing where different genes are turned on in acorn worm embryos. Multiple colors in a single image show the activities of different genes in the same embryo. Pani, et. al., used these techniques to visualize a hidden genetic blueprint in anatomically simple hemichordate embryos that is unexpectedly similar to a vertebrate brain.
