The Process of Converting a Mesenchymal Cell into Epithelial, and Vice Versa (IMAGE)
Caption
The figure shows changes in a cell shape and a number of other changes -- for example, those in internal cell structure, plus the contacts between cells. In addition, on the right side of the figure, we indicated such a feature of mesenchymal cells as their ability to penetrate the extracellular matrix (or, more simply, the extracellular environment). The increased mobility of these cells contributes to the spread of cancer.
