Image of a Human Nucleus, the Center of a Cell Where DNA is Stored (IMAGE)
Caption
White spots are nucleosomes, microscopic structures of short length DNA-protein complexes. Researchers collected visual data about the movement of nucleosomes in living human cells and used the information to calculate the 3-D architecture of the genome. Images like this one were part of an interdisciplinary project by researchers at Hiroshima University, the National Institute of Genetics (Japan), Keio University, and Sokendai Graduate University for Advanced Studies.
