Nuclear DNA Upends Fishing Quota Comfort Zone (IMAGE)

Mitochondrial DNA analysis, a genetic method used for decades to decide about the management of threatened or exploited species, has turned out to be completely inadequate in many scenarios, particularly for commercial fishing quotas. In a study published in Nature Scientific Reports, Prof Peter Teske and his team show that previously unrecognised genetic differences between populations require more sophisticated methods, such as partial sequencing of the nuclear genome.
