Fishing Quotas Have Been Decided Using An Inadequate Genetic Method for Decades (VIDEO)
Caption
A genetic method used for decades to decide about the management of threatened or exploited species has turned out to be completely inadequate in many scenarios, particularly for commercial fishing quotas. In a study published in Nature Scientific Reports, researchers show that previously unrecognised genetic differences between populations of sardines require more sophisticated methods, such as partial sequencing of the nuclear genome.
