The brain is a modular network, which can operate as a localized circuit (segregation) or in coordination with other circuits (integration). Researchers have reproduced this behaviour by growing neurons on an adhesive molecule pattern divided into four modules connected by tracks. The seeded neurons spontaneously activate and transfer information through the existing connections between them and the different modules, reproducing in vitro the complex balance of integration and segregation observed in the brain
