Testosterone Becomes Estrogen (IMAGE)

In male mice, testosterone is converted to estrogen by the action of the enzyme aromatase. The testosterone surge at the dawn of male life in the mouse becomes the basis for activation of estrogen receptors in inhibitory neurons in two brain areas. this is the condition of masculinization of the male mouse brain, and for behaviors that don't appear until puberty.
