Featured in movies such as "Golden Eye" and "Contact," the distinctive dish of Arecibo Observatory is the world's largest single-aperture radio telescope. For this study, it was used to measure the distance between Earth and asteroid 1999 RQ36 to an accuracy of 300 meters (984 feet).
