Becker, the associate provost for research and technology initiatives and a professor at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University, has been named a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. Becker's pioneering work with atmospheric-pressure cold plasmas paved the way for new, more effective methods of sterilizing medical instruments and other biomedical and environmental applications, and he holds numerous patents on his discoveries.
