Biaxial tensile machine in which dissected aortic samples are simultaneously stretched in two perpendicular directions in order to be able to realise physiological loading conditions in tissue samples in the laboratory. The deformations of the sample are measured contact-free with an optical system (video extensometer) and the forces on the samples are measured with four load cells on each linear actuator.
