Import of ADAR1 into the nucleus is impaired upon RNA binding: When RNA is bound to ADAR1 the protein localizes to the cytoplasm (top). When no RNA is present, the protein can move to the nucleus (bottom). The nucleus of the cell is labeled in blue.
