Lanternflys on Pole (IMAGE) Penn State Caption Scores of spotted lanternflies on a telephone pole. They were attracted to the vertical silhouette of the pole, landed on it, and then spent hours on it, each lanternfly eventually walking up toward the top and trying to take flight again. This demonstrates how telephone poles might be highly effective, ready-made monitoring/detection tools for this pest during late summer and fall.
