Power-To-X and the Energy System (IMAGE) Paul Scherrer Institute Caption The new white paper now being presented by PSI researchers, together with colleagues from six other Swiss universities and research institutions, is concerned with the perspectives of so-called Power-to-X technologies. In such technologies, for example, electricity from new renewable energy sources is used to produce hydrogen (H2) or methane (CH4) thus storing surplus energy. This can then be recovered at a later point in time, for example as fuel for heating or to generate electricity again. The white paper analyses various sub-areas and perspectives for the Swiss energy system.
