A 10-year, $2.7 million community-led public-private partnership has reduced by 89% the number of turtles and by 28% the number of snakes venturing onto Lake Erie's Long Point Causeway, located in southwestern Ontario, Canada. In 2003, the notorious 3.6 km strip of road, which runs through a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, had ranked 4th among the world's top turtle road mortality sites.
