A Slocum glider shortly after it is launched into Monterey Bay, California. The is one of a fleet of gliders observing the ocean this summer during the month of August. Using mathematical models devised by Naomi Leonard's research team at Princeton University, the gliders are self-choreographing their movements, without the aid of humans.
